Question:
What are the different error codes on the EasyStep 4000
and what do they mean?
Answer: Here is a list of the
possible error codes that pertain to the EasyStep 4000 :
Error Code #1: The smart chip on the bottom of the
tape cartridge is not responding.
Solution: Adjust and Clean sensor that comes in
contact with the machine or ensure smart chip is on tape
cartridge. To clean the sensor a pencil eraser or alcohol
prep pad can be used. The sensor is located in the back
of the cartridge bay. It can be adjusted by positioning
the sensor up or down to ensure connectivity with the tape
cartridge.
Error Code #2: The smart chip is being read but
there is an error in the data. Solution: Replace cartridge
Error Code #3: Smart chip programmed incorrectly.
Solution: Replace cartridge
Error Code #4: Tape roll is empty or tape is loaded
incorrectly. Solution: Reload a new tape roll or ensure
that the current tape is fed through the machine properly.
Error Code #5: Tape roll is empty or tape is loaded
incorrectly. Solution: Reload a new tape roll or ensure
that the current tape is fed through the machine properly.
Error Code #6: Tape roll is empty or tape is loaded
incorrectly. Solution: Reload a new tape roll or ensure
that the current tape is fed through the machine properly.
Error Code #7: The door is open. Solution: Reopen
and close door ensuring that all microswitches are making
contact. Microswitches are located behind the cutter door
and/or on either side of the tape cartridge depending on
the model.
Error Code #8: The smart chip contact is shorted
to ground. Solution: Reload tape cartridge checking the
tape sensor is contacting the chip properly. Replace tape
sensor.
Error Code #9: Illegal tape supply. Solution: Load
tape that is designed to be used with the machine.
Question:
How do you setup the EasyStep 4000 to work with the MarkWare or VersaLabel software?
Answer: First you must have an
operating software version of at least 3.0 or greater. To
check this, select the status key and down arrow to O.S. Version.
If the O.S. is 3.0 or greater, the next step is to setup
the communications. This can be done through the setup key
on the top left of the keyboard. Once in the setup menu
down arrow to communications and hit enter. From there the
settings need to be set as follows: (note settings can be
adjusted by using the left and right arrow keys.)
Baud Rate........ 19200
Data Bits........... 8
Parity................. none
Stop Bits........... 1
Flow Control...... Hardware
After these are selected hit the enter key to save the
changes.
The last item is to put the machine on-line. This is done
by selecting the layout key and choosing VersaLabel/Mware
on line Select enter. The screen should then read: "System
is now on-line press escape to take system off-line."
You are now ready to use the software.
Question:
How do you batch print on a EasyStep 4000? ?
Answer: When you are creating
multiple labels, using the next label key, you can designate
different print quantities per label.
To do this: after you have created a couple of labels select
the preview key. In the preview menu there is an option
called print list. Select print list. Notice all the list
of all labels you have created along with a quantity on
the right hand side. You can adjust the quantities to what
you want and print them all at once.
Question:
How do I fix a cutter jam on the EasyStep 4000?
Answer: Find the third white
gear to the right when looking at the blades. Turning this
gear will move all other gears and the cutter blades, allowing
the blades to be cycled and unjammed..
Once recycled, clean well with isopropyl alcohol, making
sure to clean both blades, and the guide plate on the left
side of blades.
You can also get this message if the print cover door is
not closed tightly. The handle will lift up and the limit
switch will be disengaged, this can be solved by closing
the door with pressure in the middle of the cover after
recycling the blades.
Anotherway to get this message is from a broken limit switch.
To fix this you will need to send it in for repair.
Question:
How do you select the arrow keys at the top of the keyboard?
Answer:The arrows on the top
of the keyboard can be accessed by holding down the "alt"
key and selecting the corresponding arrow at the same time.
Question:
Why do my labels get cut in half when printing RTK labels?
Answer: Your sensors on the EasyStep
4000 are most likely blocked by tape or glue.
To clean the sensor use a sponge Q-tip and isopropyl alcohol.
Wipe up on top were the tape goes through before it is cut.
There is another sensor behind the rubber roller and that
should also be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol.
Question:
Whenever I'm using SignMaker software and printing multiple labels, why does the EasyStep 4000 go off line after it cuts the 1st label in half. It stops at that point and goes off line and will not allow you to go back on line until you turn the machine off and back on again.
Answer: The variable resistor
(VR1) on the CPU board requires adjustment to achieve a voltage
of .23 VDC. This should be done by a qualified technician
at the Graphic Products' Systems Technical Support Center.
Question:
What is the proper way to connect the EasyStep 4000 to the PC?
Answer: When connecting the EasyLynx
ribbon cable, both the PC and EasyStep 4000 need to be turned
off.
Question: Why do I have a
line across the width of the first label?
Answer: Many thermal printers
will leave a line across the width of the first label, especially
after a run of multiple labels. This is due to the warm thermal
head sitting on the ribbon and transferring a line of ink
to the tape.
To prevent this from happening release the carriage or
print hood right after printing a run of labels. It's also
a good idea, before starting to print a new set of labels,
to advance the ribbon slightly before reseating the carriage
or print hood.
Question: The EasyStep 4000
is showing (by the turning wait symbol in the corner of
the LCD display) that information is being received, yet
nothing prints. The correct communications and comport are
set and a straight through cable is being used. Is there
another checkpoint to be hit in order to get the information
to print?
Answer: The solution is to
set up a merge marker for the data. Without this merge marker,
the downloaded information will not have a destination,
therefore it will not print.
There are two methods to set up a merge marker.
First, hit the File key and then arrow down to Data Merge
Marker; then press enter.
The shortcut method is to hit the Alt key and the "M"
key simultaneously.
