Getting Started - Introduction
to the K5100
Turning the Printer On: Use
the POWER switch located on the left side of the printer
to turn the printer on. You will quickly see text flash
on the screen that identifies this as a Kroy 5100. Then
the following display will appear. A cursor will be
flashing just to the right of "1:":

Cursor Movement: The underline
seen above is the CURSOR. The cusor shows the current
typing position.
The CURSOR KEYS -- circled in red
on the image to the left, move the cursor through text
without changing it and through menu options without
selecting any. The left and right cursor keys move left
and right, one option option or one character at a time;
the up and down cursor keys move the cursor up and down
through lines of text, one line at a time.
Adjusting LCD Contrast: The
LCD CONTRAST allows you to lighten or darken the LCD
of your printer. The LCD contrast control is circled
in green in the above image. To darken the screen, turn
the LCD contrast control clockwise. To lighten the screen,
turn the LCD contrast control counter-clockwise.
Default Printer Settings - Auto
Size: When the power is turned on for the first
time, there are pre-programmed printer settings that
take effect. One of these is the AUTO SIZE feature.
This feature automatically sizes the text of the label
based on the cartridge that is installed and the size
of the media.
You
can access the Auto Size function by pressing the SIZE
key. You can turn auto sizing off at any time, and manually
specify the type size. For the examples described in
this tutorial we will have Auto Sizing ON.
Default Font and Justification:
The default font is "Block". This is the only
font installed on the K5100. However, other fonts can
be downloaded into the K5100 from your computer.
The default setting for justification
is "left".
