Step 1 - Downloading
Varitronics printer driver files intended for
Macintosh computers have names ending in ".sit"
and are self extracting Stuffit archives. A
Stuffit archive is a package containing one
or more files that has been "stuffed"
to make it smaller and provide easy downloading
of numerous files simultaneously. An archive
that is self-extracting is capable of "unstuffing"
itself once it has been "decoded."
Your browser program may be capable of "decoding"
and "unstuffing" the file you select
automatically.
If your browser program does NOT automatically
"decode" and "unstuff" the
file for you, here's what you should do:
Once the file has been completely downloaded
to your computer, use a program such as a recent
"Stuffit" program to "decode"
it. You may wish to place it in an empty folder
on your Macintosh to prevent mingling its files
with others already on your computer. "Decoding"
the file will present you with an archive whose
file name ends in ".sit" which can
also then be unstuffed in one of two ways:
Use one of the recent "Stuffit"
programs Stuffit
Deluxe or Stuffit
Expander to
open and extract the contents of a Macintosh
archive.
The latest "Stuffit" programs are
capable of both "decoding" and "unstuffing"
the original downloaded file, leaving you with
a folder containing a "double-clickable"
installer application.
Simply launch this program, and follow its
instructions to install your new printer software.
