Feb 7, 2008 Combustible Dust Explosion In Georgia
A huge explosion and fire occurred at the Imperial Sugar refinery in Port Wentworth, Georgia, northwest of Savannah, causing 14 deaths and injuring 38 others, including 14 with serious and life-threatening burns. The explosion was fueled by massive accumulations of combustible sugar dust throughout the packaging building.
It is believed that the disaster was due in large part to the factory's outdated construction materials and methods, which contributed to the severity of fire.
Feb 11, 2009 New Website For Young Canadian Workers
The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) launched a new version of its young workers website, “Young Workers Zone.” The website is designed to help young workers stay safe and healthy while at work and includes a collection of information and tools from like-minded organizations across Canada. It is a useful resource for young workers, parents, teachers and employers.
