RTK Software features extensive labeling database, ease of use

Beaverton, OR – May 08, 2008 -- Featuring an enhanced labeling database with information for over 1,700 chemicals, the new and improved Right-to-Know software bundled with the DuraLabel PRO label printer has brought industrial labeling to a new high.

Meant to work with the thermal transfer desktop printer, this software has been developed by Oregon-based Graphic Products, Inc., a company that has been in tune with the changing needs of industrial labeling and sign-printing for nearly 40 years. While current regulations do not specify a standard format for labels, they do encourage that labels contain at least the identity of the hazardous chemical by common name, appropriate hazard warnings, and the name and address of the manufacturer, distributor, or responsible party.

Right to Know is heavily championed by OSHA and promotes employees’ right to know what types of hazards or potential dangers they could be exposed to in the workplace. A Right to Know movement emerged in the 1970s that was advocated by workers initially demanding to know what was being released into the air they breathed and in the water they drank. This campaign prompted a variety of state right-to-know laws, as well as many national standards and regulations, the most significant being the Hazard Communication Standard. This directive requires that all hazardous chemicals have an identification label. Additionally, employers are required to inform all workers of areas where hazardous materials are present, the location of the written hazard communication program, how to read and understand labels and MSDSs (Material Safety Data Sheets), and the hazards of all routine or non-routine tasks.
