Worker dragged into dangerous machine
Regularly double-check that pinch points
and hazardous areas on machines are properly guarded. A missing
guard can not only result in expensive penalties, it can lead
to serious injuries, too.
Company: Engineered Metal Solutions,

Business: Metals manufacturing.
Agency: OSHA.
Fine: $89,000 (proposed).
Reason for fine: A dangerous machine
wasn’t properly guarded.
Note: The company jumped onto OSHA’s
radar screen following an incident in which a worker was dragged
into a metal-forming machine and injured. Investigators also
determined that the operation didn’t have a lockout/Tagout
program.
