Injury Tracking App Launched

Employers can now track workplace injuries and illnesses through OSHA’s newly launched Injury Tracking Application. The website portal accepts submissions via an online form, CSV file uploads or transfer the data electronically using an application programming interface.
OSHA finally launched the web portal on Aug. 1, but the site still has been undergoing some improvements and changes, pursuant to the final rule requirements of “Improve Tracking of Workplace Injuries and Illnesses.” The rule originally had been promulgated in May 2016 with anticipation of having the portal available by February 2017 and submissions due by employers no later than July 1, 2017.
Submission of recordkeeping forms currently is not required by OSHA, however, a Dec. 1, 2017, compliance deadline for employers to submit their recordkeeping forms has been set.
Starting in 2018, employers required to maintain injury and illness records with 250 or more employees at an establishment will be required to submit all recordkeeping forms – 300 Log, 301 Forms and 300A Form. For employers required to maintain injury and illness records with less than 250 but 20 or more employees in specific industries will be required to submit only the 300A Form.
OSHA has provided employers with information in its website to assist in the use of the portal. Employers are encouraged to take the time to become familiar with the portal, establish an account and review the injury and illness recordkeeping forms.
According to OSHA, “employers have an ‘ongoing obligation’ to keep and maintain accurate injury and illness records, and that duty does not go away if an employer fails to record an incident.”
