OSHA Update: Online Injury Filing Now Available

OSHA has created an online reporting webpage to streamline employer reports on severe worker injuries. The webpage was built to comply with new record-keeping requirements, which took effect in January 2015 (and were later clarified in July 2015).

Under the requirements, all employers under OSHA jurisdiction must report workplace incidents to OSHA, even employers who are exempt from routinely keeping OSHA records due to company size or industry. Within the first year, OSHA received approximately 12,000 reports. The agency is expected to release a complete analysis in early 2016.

Report a Fatality or Severe Injury

• All employers are required to notify OSHA when an employee is killed on the job or suffers a work-related hospitalization, amputation, or loss of an eye.
• A fatality must be reported within 8 hours.
• An in-patient hospitalization, amputation, or eye loss must be reported within 24 hours.
