2016 marks the fifth year that Graphic Products has supported Toys for Tots, where employees raise money and bring in new toys to donate to less fortunate children. This tradition evokes a spirit of giving, and in 2016, employees were particularly generous in donating almost 150 more toys than they did in the program's first year in 2012.
In its first four years of helping support Toys for Toys, Graphic Products collected and delivered 700 toys to the 6th Engineer Support Battalion. The Marine Forces Reserve engineering battalion, under the command of the 4th Marine Logistics Group, donates the toys to the local chapter of Toys for Tots. This year, the company collected 193 toys, bringing the total number of toys collected to 893 over five years.
The mission of the Toys for Tots program is to collect new, unwrapped toys throughout the holiday season each year, and to distribute those toys to less fortunate children in local communities. Graphic Products is proud to support the work of veterans and their mission of providing joy to children each holiday season.
A History of Helping the U.S. Military Help Children in Need
The history of Toys for Tots dates back to 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR, founded Toys for Tots in Los Angeles and collected 5,000 toys that year. The inspiration for the organization grew out of Maj. Hendricks and his wife’s search for a charity to take and distribute new dolls made by his wife. When they found no such organization existed, they started their own.
After many successful years, the Secretary of Defense approved Toys for Tots as an official activity of the U.S. Marine Corps in 1995 and an official mission of the Marine Corps Reserve. Since its beginnings, the program has distributed over 494 million toys to over 230 million children who otherwise may not have new toys.
Graphic Products wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday season and a fruitful 2017.
